Week 2 of the 2025 Minor Football season brought exciting challenges and promising
development for our Sylvan Lake teams.
The HJ Cody Lakers hit the road to open the week and delivered another dramatic performance, earning a 10-0 shutout win over the Lacombe Rams with another short bench. The boys poured their heart and souls onto the field all game and showed amazing character, battling both injuries and fatigue. Absolute warriors!
Jack Orich was player of the game for his outstanding play at linebacker and stepping in at quarterback for three quarters to lead the Lakers to the win. Shout out to Ozzy Koller for a huge touchdown, a convert and a field goal to score all the Lakers' points. Special mention to Jaiden Kerr for a late game interception (tipped by Jaiden Dezeeuw) to help secure the victory. A great win and a total team effort!

The U16 Bantam Lions unfortunately didn’t come away with the same result in their season opener, falling 38 - 12 to the Notre Dame Jr. Cougars. The Lions got off to a slow start, trailing 38-0 at the break. But they responded with a tenacious second half performance, shutting out the Cougars while putting up 12 points of their own.
The Lions' turnaround showed real promise and gives them a solid foundation to build on heading into this week’s matchup with the Hunting Hills Lightning.

Capping off the weekend, the U11 Atom Tigers opened their 2025 campaign with back-to-back strong showings in a Sunday doubleheader against Stettler and Lacombe.
Player of the Game Blake Symons was electric on both sides of the ball, making big plays on offense and defense all afternoon.
The Tigers will look to keep building their skills and momentum heading into next weekend’s games.

Looking ahead, all four Sylvan Lake teams return to action this week. With a few days to rest up and heal, the Lakers aim to keep their winning streak alive under the Friday Night Lights when they face the Notre Dame Cougars at Setters Place in Red Deer. The Lions take on the Hunting Hills Jr. Lightning (date and time TBA). The U13 Peewee Bears return to HJ Cody Field for the first time in two seasons on Sunday at 11:00 am against the undefeated Lacombe Explosion. The Tigers are also back on the field Saturday. Note: Due to a shortage of referees this season, some games across the divisions have had to be rescheduled. We’ll keep the SLMFA website updated as quickly as possible and thank everyone for their patience!
